AFC Edmonton was formed in 2020 post the global Covid-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, where it was felt there was a growing need to do more for our local community.
We intend to build a team that gives young adults in disadvantaged areas in North London a safe and fun environment to play football, build their career and socialise.
“Contendunt Optima” is our slogan, which is latin for “Strive for the best”. We hope to strive for the best on and off the field, where we want to achieve our objectives, our stakeholders’ objectives and inspire the next generations.
We are a newly built grassroots football club who operate in Edmonton, with our men’s team joining the Barnet Sunday Football League. Our long term goal is to become the first semi-professional team in Edmonton for men’s, women’s and youth football within the next 10 years.
The main reason to why this club was created was because of the negative perception and portrayal of the area of Edmonton. Whether it being a poverty struck area, or affiliated with gang, knife and violence, positive light is rarely shone on the good things in the area. We want to bring our young adults within the area into the spotlight for doing something positive. We intend to motivate and educate youth on the dangers of knife crime and encourage positive pathways in life, striving for a better future for the next generations.
